Soon knows we all have various skin concerns we would like to understand and treat. To learn more, we are examining skin conditions and what you can do about them. First up, blackheads.

What are blackheads?

Blackheads start when a hair follicle/pore becomes clogged with sebum (oil that helps lubricate your skin) and dead skin cells. The sebum and dead skin cells push to the surface and form a bump or comedone. Blackheads form as a result of oxidation— the pore opens and air gets in, turning the oil gray or black.

Why do you have blackheads?

Blackheads are a result of hormonal changes and the body is producing more oil than usual (typically during puberty.) They are not a serious condition and can be solved with topical treatments.

How do you clear blackheads?

Blackheads aren’t from dirt so it’s best not to pop or scrub them. Use a gentle cleanser with salicylic or lactic acid to exfoliate any dead skin cells or benzoyl peroxide to kill bacteria. Another option is to wait it out, blackheads often go away on their own.

Soon suggests incorporating our Micro-hole Hydrogel Hydrating Mask to balance skin’s hydration and oil production. It contains hydrating hyaluronic acid, plumping collagen, free radical fighting raspberry ketones, and niacinamide which reduces enlarged pores.
