Skin Hydration Secrets You Need To Know

This post goes out to all you thirst traps.

This post goes out to all you thirst traps—and by thirst traps we mean our friends with dehydrated skin. (We’re a skincare blog guys, c’mon.) We know how it is, no matter what you do, it seems your skin can’t get enough hydration. If your skin is dull, tight, over wrinkled, reddened, or inflammed, then your skin is likely dehydrated. Which is not cute.

Dehydrated skin is different from dry skin. Dry skin is skin that doesn’t produce enough sebum and dehydrated skin is a result of external factors. Meaning anyone—even those with oily skin— can have dehydrated skin. Whether it’s due to environment, weather, medication, or activities, your skin stays thirsty. Here are tips for when your dehydrated skin is insatiable.

Drinking more water and consuming more water rich vegetables and fruits (like watermelon, celery, or cucumber) can help hydrate from the inside. Consuming some essential fatty acids from foods like fatty fish, flaxseeds, chia seeds, or walnuts is great for reducing inflammation and promote healthy cell membranes.

Since environmental factors contribute to your dehydration, consider introducing beneficial moisture to your environment with a humidifier.

Massaging your skin a few minutes nightly helps promote lymphatic drainage and circulation to promote natural healing. Bonus is it’s great for releasing tension. If you want to incorporate an oil, squalane works well with all skin types.

Dead skin cells can block absorption of moisture. Exfoliate once a week and apply a moisturizer after to allow your moisturizing products to absorb.

Often serums are better for dehydrated skin than moisturizers because they absorb easily into the skin. Especially hyaluronic acid—a humectant that holds 1000x its weight in water which adds major moisture into your skin.

Applying a mask before bed gives your skin all the goodness it needs and  time to rest and repair while you sleep. Our Micro-Hole Hydrogel Hydrating Face Mask contains skin saving hyaluronic acid, plumping collagen, and free radical fighting raspberry ketones effectively locks moisture into your skin. You wake up to renewed and hydrated skin.
